This is Serious!

Well, well, well. To catch you all up, Raena of Raena's Sketch Journal did a post about playing with her kneadable eraser one night while watching tv, and creating a cartoony but dignified gentleman's head. (A kneadable eraser, for those of you who don't know, is soft and can be kneaded into any shape, like clay.) You can see the gentleman here.

I then made the mistake of commenting on her post and telling her that my wife and I have been trading small "sculptures" made from my kneadable eraser for weeks now - leaving them for the other to find. I said that the one we have now is so bizarre that I would try to take a photo of it and post it as a response.

But before I could even pick up the camera, Raena turned around in her next post and actually created the most amazing little character. You actually could call it a sculpture! You can see it here. And then she had the nerve to say, "Dan, I'm still waiting to see yours!!"

Well, Raena, here it is. .. Yes, we dressed up our turtle.

But just you wait. Serious sculpting is on its way!

Later on in the day: Okay, Raena here's as serious I can be (and he looks mighty serious):

So, fellow art bloggers, here is the challenge - grab your kneaded erasers, sculpt a masterpiece, and post the result on your blog! And don't blame me. Blame Raena!

[Raena, can I draw now?]

  1. Nice knead Dan! I didn't know that so many people love to play with the eraser, my cousin who did art in RMIT Melbourne was telling me that the only fun time he had was with his kneadable eraser :)
But you're right, I think it's great fun, and it doesn't stink or as messy as clay. I wonder what happens if you bake it in the oven ^^

  2. Keep going, It's great fun for me too just to look at your productions !

  3. Oh my gawd...hold on...must stop laughing so I can comment!

  4. Jeeze-loo-eez! Not only is this guy hilarious, but he's awesome! You've really stepped this up a notch, I'd say! I'm sweatin' this one! Yep, feeling the pressure! Feels like I'm up against Bobby Flay. This is a throw-down!

  5. Yep, a throw-down it is! Still, Bobby Flay only challenges the Masters. If they weren't the best, he wouldn't bother.

On the other hand, nobody ever really beats Bobby Flay, do they? :)

Come on, Raena ~ Give me you best shot!!

  6. Hilarious. Your second attempt is really good.

  7. Too much fun!!! Must be a gift.
I remember "sculpting" my eraser in high school when I was supposed to be working.

  8. I can't stop laughing...I think you're venturing into a new art form!

  9. Wow! I didn't know I am still getting comments on this! :) Great fun - so come on Alex, Martine, Wil, vickylw, Lynn and Andrea - you can't leave it that only Raena and I are wasting time on this, can you?! Wield your erasers!

  10. Gaping mouth, huge nose, and wearing a tie looking all confused... I think it looks more like "HOW MUCH DID YOU SAY I OWE YOU NOW?!!!" ^^

Hmmm.. I would think of something, but yes... lemme get my engineering work done and I'll play afterwards ;)
