One Day

Ink and watercolor in moleskine

A day that sings softly and subtly,
Its tune a gentle breeze,
Its lyrics whispy white clouds drifting.

A day disguised as any day,
That winks in delight, and waves
One hand as though it dons a magic cloak.

Beside me you rest as I sketch the day
And the children, the cotton candy, and trees,
But all that I know is you, your touch and your smile.

When lifelong companions are one day old,
And under the spell of a day,
We remember together that day, and no more than one.

  1. How beautiful! A perfect snapshot, captured in words and sketch, I can see the entire scene. You sketching, the smell of cotton candy, the voices of children, the beauty of a perfect spring day, and true love. Well done.

  6. Dan- So beautiful! I have to agree with Cathy that through your words and painting you have captured the day far better than any photograph.
Your poem is romantic and specific- it shows your love and dedication and through your words, you have painted such a deep, loving picture.
Your painting is so full of life. The children waiting for cotton candy with all of the colors and liveliness in the background captures a moment in time. A positive moment of beauty.

Thanks Dan for sharing this beautiful day!

  19. Thank you all so much! Yes, Mari, I wrote it. And I keep wanting to revise parts of it. Glad you all like the sketch too. I was quite pleased to be able to capture the scene in a short time. It was very time consuming coloring all of those parts, but oh so enjoyable.

  20. Nice one Dan! I like how you added a whole bunch of colors to show the fun and happiness. Not sure if it's just a coincidence because it's cotton candy or just that subconsciously you did that to bring out the atmosphere, but it worked really well, definitely shows the fun!
