Gobble, Gobble

Ink and watercolor of Mexican Restaurant in large moleskine
(Double-click for clearer image)
Yes it's turkey for breakfast,
And, well, turkey for lunch.
And it's turkey for dinner ..

See, I've got a hunch
That although turkey is good on Thanksgiving day,
And though the day after (the next), I can
Say the bird's best -
That I'd rather have Mexican
On all of the rest.

And how about you -
Do you feel the same?
Do you now feel that turkey is
Your middle name? Do you now feel
That turkey is the food that we eat,
That your belly's expanding as you sit on your seat
And eat turkey each hour because that's how you feel -
That if you are what you eat, then you'll be next year's meal?

If you feel that way,
Then gobble with me,
And watch out for knives,
And for Black Friday deals.
And waddle away to a place that is safe,
And watch what you eat in upcoming meals,
Because maybe, just maybe, if it's
Junk you consume, like hot dogs and
Hamburgers, pizza, and fries,
You'll reach next Thanksgiving,
And next year survive.

  2. We had a Honey Baked Ham this year ;-) and Mexican Food (my favorite) Wednesday before Thanksgiving... must admit with ham for breakfast, and ham sandwiches for lunch, and ham for dinner... I'm about ready for a little turkey or maybe a burger :-)

  4. Wow, I missed a lot of posts here it seems! Glad I finally got to see them. :)
I'm not in the turkey zone either but I sure admire your mad turkey poetry skills and your fantastic sketch! Your watercolors are always so intricate, it must take you ages to finish one of those? (May sketch is not the right word for them)
I also love your "bad girl" - she rocks! <3
Btw, thanks for your comment(s) on my blog! Were you successful with the image-assisted snot education? :D

    1. My wife has always said I have mad turkey poetry skills - 'bout time I used them! The ink on this on was done during a lunch break from work. The watercolor - well, I almost never do watercolor fast.

Thanks for liking my sketches! And I am glad my bad girl rocks!

Image-assisted education of all sorts continues indefinitely.

    1. A confession - I can't get enough either, just need breaks now and then. And no, I don't eat it for breakfast, thank goodness. Pamo has suggested turkey tacos which sounds mighty good to me actually!

  7. Dan, I like this. It parallels what I'm trying to do with my drawings: a lot of stuff on the page. Well drawn!

  8. Fantastic colors! Super composition! Wonderful detail! Excellent in every way.
How about turkey burritos? Could it be any worse sounding than fish taco's?
Happy post Turkey Day. Sounds like you had a great feast and many turkey sandwiches in your future. Enjoy!

    1. Actually, Pamo, I love fish tacos, and turkey burritos or turkey tacos don't sound half bad!

  9. Hi Dan, Go vegan, that will end your Turkey woes! (I'm more or less vegan). So, did you have turkey tortilla soup? Turkey enchiladas? Or, turkey green chile burritos? Love the pink and green colors of the restaurant; it looks like a festive place. I applaud your ability to work in public places, its something I'm striving for! So cool...

    1. Man, I love Mexican food. Your suggestions make my mouth water!! Go for the public angle - do it! You'll enjoy, I guarantee it! It is just as good as turkey green chile burritos.

  11. We had turkey for 3 days...that's all I can stand. Tonight we went for Mexican, my all time favorite. I had cheese enchilada w/ refried beans, DH had taquitos. The restaurant is locally owned and we try to support them in this terrible economy where small businesses are struggling to keep the doors open. We love their food and certainly don't want them to close down.

    1. Perfect! You did it right. Sounds delicious! I wouldn't want any Mexican place to close down.

  12. Funny how many of us do not eat turkey, but we do appreciate your little ditty. I'm stunned at how much detail you got into your drawing. Do you talk to your wife when you go out?!

    1. We have the perfect marriage - we don't talk. No, not really. I didn't do this when she was with me. It was during a lunch break from work at a Mexican Place in another local town I had to drive to. And it is a wild-looking place! I actually was rushing when I drew this, which accounts for some of the wonkiness. Glad you liked my ditty!

  13. First, I have no idea how I missed your two last posts. Second, it might have something to do with the turkey we have in the freezer (we're still making with turkey leftovers and our Thanks Giving was over a month ago) and we all know what happens when you eat turkey {or at least I do, fall a sleep}. All I can say, lord help us all Im so sick of it and x-mas is just around the corner (grrrr, more left overs)

Love the drawings, the "Bad Girl" has again great texture to it, love how she's a bit faded or almost part of the structure. The Cafe drawing, Im with Sandra on this one : ) Two very great posts!!!

  15. LOVE that drawing....fabulous color, great perspective---it has a lovely "busy" sense about it. The turkey essay (poem?) is nifty too--you have many talents! I really love turkey--so it never bothers me that there are plenty of leftovers! We're down to turkey soup now---I still like it! :)

    1. Hey now, Celeste, it's a poem - it rhymes! Or it's a rhyming essay on leftover turkey. Who knows? So many talents I should be rich, right? OK, now - here's the secret truth - I love turkey too!! Thanks for loginve the drawing - it means a lot.
