So Tired.
I'm tired today - can't think of much of anything to say.
Not a single thing. Not even these words. The thoughts fly away
Like sound-startled birds. Like wind-blown balloons
That follow no path, that delight or confound, maybe usher a laugh.
The thoughts don't know when. They don't even know how.
I don't know what I'm saying so I think I'll stop now.
[Psst.. that's right. My poem has absolutely nothing to do with the ink and watercolor sketch of this poor, unsuspecting family above. It just goes to show - there is truth in poetry. .. Now, off to bed.]

The poetry is delightful, as is the sketch!! Terrific work! Get some (well-deserved) rest!
ReplyDeleteNice sketch, nice poem =) I hope you're well rested by the time you read this. Looks like I am not heading to Florida, but Mississippi instead
ReplyDeleteI get days like that! great sketch, I especially like the blonde lady and her dress.
ReplyDeleteI wish I was so creative when I was tired. well done on the drawing and the poetry. why so tired though?
ReplyDeleteI love this post! LOL It's just too creative! I hope you rested last night.
ReplyDeleteOh you little devil .... clearly you Always have something to say! It's a delightful little poem and a very fun drawing. I also love the blond lady and her dress! nancy
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me that even when you have nothing to say, you still manage to say it so eloquently and cleverly. "sound-startled birds"...i love that phrase.
ReplyDeleteWow ... you're very articulate for someone who has nothing to say :-) Wonderful. Love the drawing, too.
ReplyDeleteLovely drawing Dan!
ReplyDeleteYou've captured the moment in your sketch and another moment in your poem. Well done. You deserve a rest.

my favorite face in this bunch is to the far left --nice smile! There is a conversation going on with these people..they are happy to be together.
ReplyDeleteYou may not have much to say, but you captured the tired feeling that hits all of us at sometime. Your drawing, as usual, is right on!
ReplyDeleteMe too Dan! I'll have to post your poem on my wall. Well said.
ReplyDeleteYour drawing is wonderful as always. I like the elderly lady on the end. She reminds me of my grandmother. I just love your drawing style Dan.
This makes me smile, Dan, because I just read Kathy's blog about the need to explain art.
ReplyDeleteLove your drawing (looks like our local bar) and poem.
What a fun way to find the words! I felt more energized by the end of the poem too!
ReplyDeleteWonderful colors and drawing Dan!
I'm tired, too; but not tired enough to read your thoughts. Love your free-verse poem! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope your schedule eases up soon! But, I think being tired can bring out some creative elements because this poem is very reflective of your mood. Wonderful sketch and the colors are great. Love how much depth you've captured through the archway!
ReplyDeleteI loved your poem with the whimsical, laugh-at-yourself ending. You've a way with words.
ReplyDeleteThis is good: peaceful, calm, a bit morose, and sorta feel like my old soft shoes.
ReplyDeleteYou asked how "Costco" found me: I post almost all my work on flickr.com...I think they googled themselves and the cartoon popped up.
Written and painted-nicely done!
ReplyDeleteSorry you are so tired. It's a nice sketch and sometimes it's best to just let yourself be as tired as you feel. Don't make sense of it. Hope you find the rest you need though so you can enjoy your thoughts with your paintings.
ReplyDeleteI feel tired, too; but glad it's Friday!
ReplyDeleteYou said you can't think of anything and yet, you were able to write such a nice poem. I like it! ;)
Nice sketch, too! Awesome work!
Thank you all so much - encouraging, as always. I am grateful that some of you had favorite individuals in the group I sketched - makes me know that all are okay (had doubts about two of them). Thanks to those of you who liked the verse as well. Thanks Jim for the info - I've sort of let flickr slide, myself - guess I should jump back in.
ReplyDeleteI love your poem and your sketch! The lady on the end in green looks so much like the lady who lived next door to me at my previous house!
ReplyDeleteI hope you managed to get some rest and are feeling less tired now :)
Fantastic drawing, Dan!
ReplyDeleteDid you overcome that "dark moment"?
I get some days like those :-/ ...but everything get better right away ;-)
Dan, thank you so much for visiting and commenting on my blog! You have so much character captured in your people sketches. Makes me want to know their stories. I love your colorful work... it's a great blend of looseness, but full of detail, a wonderful style! I will definitely return to see what you post next. :)
