So Tired.

I'm tired today - can't think of much of anything to say.
Not a single thing. Not even these words. The thoughts fly away
Like sound-startled birds. Like wind-blown balloons
That follow no path, that delight or confound, maybe usher a laugh.
The thoughts don't know when. They don't even know how.
I don't know what I'm saying so I think I'll stop now.

[Psst.. that's right. My poem has absolutely nothing to do with the ink and watercolor sketch of this poor, unsuspecting family above. It just goes to show - there is truth in poetry. .. Now, off to bed.]

  7. It amazes me that even when you have nothing to say, you still manage to say it so eloquently and cleverly. "sound-startled birds"...i love that phrase.

  11. You may not have much to say, but you captured the tired feeling that hits all of us at sometime. Your drawing, as usual, is right on!

  12. Me too Dan! I'll have to post your poem on my wall. Well said.
Your drawing is wonderful as always. I like the elderly lady on the end. She reminds me of my grandmother. I just love your drawing style Dan.

  13. This makes me smile, Dan, because I just read Kathy's blog about the need to explain art.

Love your drawing (looks like our local bar) and poem.

  16. I hope your schedule eases up soon! But, I think being tired can bring out some creative elements because this poem is very reflective of your mood. Wonderful sketch and the colors are great. Love how much depth you've captured through the archway!

  18. This is good: peaceful, calm, a bit morose, and sorta feel like my old soft shoes.

You asked how "Costco" found me: I post almost all my work on flickr.com...I think they googled themselves and the cartoon popped up.

  19. Sorry you are so tired. It's a nice sketch and sometimes it's best to just let yourself be as tired as you feel. Don't make sense of it. Hope you find the rest you need though so you can enjoy your thoughts with your paintings.

  21. Thank you all so much - encouraging, as always. I am grateful that some of you had favorite individuals in the group I sketched - makes me know that all are okay (had doubts about two of them). Thanks to those of you who liked the verse as well. Thanks Jim for the info - I've sort of let flickr slide, myself - guess I should jump back in.

  22. I love your poem and your sketch! The lady on the end in green looks so much like the lady who lived next door to me at my previous house!

I hope you managed to get some rest and are feeling less tired now :)

  24. Dan, thank you so much for visiting and commenting on my blog! You have so much character captured in your people sketches. Makes me want to know their stories. I love your colorful work... it's a great blend of looseness, but full of detail, a wonderful style! I will definitely return to see what you post next. :)
