In a Hotel - EDM Challenge #56 Self Portrait
11" x 13-1/4" watercolor on 140 lb. cold press paper.
Holed up in a Virginia hotel for three-plus hours. Watercolors in hand. I look around. Nothing interesting to paint. But, wait - there's a table in front of a mirror, there's a lamp to one side, and when I look straight ahead ..
Three-plus hours later, and I have completed my first Everyday Matters challenge, number 56, a self-portrait. Life is good.

Welcome, Dan!! Life IS good, and so's this response to the Self-Portrait challenge! I love the way you used color, and the lights and shadows that define the contours of your face!
ReplyDeleteI think it's super-productive to be able to find anything to draw anyway :) And this is just so nicely done!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great portrait. Like betty says - your use of colour is very assured. I'm glad you're proud of this - you should be. Welcome to the EDM group from another relatively new member!

ReplyDeleteNice painting.... there is such a sense of character and expression in the face and carriage. I think you know the sitter well. :o)
ReplyDeleteSelf portraits are something I will never get sick of, and also the perfect subject when there isn't anything else around. I hope you try some more.
